SC Music Club Scholarships: Congratulations to 8th Grade trombonist Adam George who is the recipient of a scholarship from the SC Music Club Scholarship Auditions that were held on Sunday, February 26 at the East China PAC. Adam was awarded the Dr. Richard Sargent Instrumental Scholarship. Eleven young musicians from SCMS, SCHS, MCHS, and St. Mary's competed for the four available scholarships this year.
MSBOA District 16 Band Festival - The SCMS 7th and 8th Grade Bands participated in the the MSBOA District 16 Middle School Band Festival at Algonquin MS on Fri March 9 and Sat March 10. The 7th Grade Band received a First Division rating in Class D and the 8th Grade Band received a Second Division rating in Class B. This is the fourth year that our Bands have participated in the Festival, and the third consecutive year that our 7th Grade Band has received a First Division. Congratulations to both Bands on their excellent performances!
MSBOA All-State Band - 8th Grade Band member Eli George (trumpet) was selected by audition to perform in the MSBOA All-State Middle School Band in concert at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids, MI on January 21. Over 1,200 7th and 8th grade students from across the state prepared a live audition in October to be considered for this ensemble, and Eli was the only student from St. Clair county to be selected this year! The ninety-nine member All-State Middle School Band rehearsed for two days at the Conference with their director Mrs. Mary Land, Director of Bands at Young Harris College in Georgia, before presenting a fantastic concert. Congratulations to Eli on this outstanding accomplishment!
MSBOA District 16 Honors Band - Six SCMS Band members were selected to participate in the MSBOA District 16 Middle School Honors Bands in a concert held at Warren Lincoln HS on Tuesday, January 10. 8th Graders Emily Russell (clarinet), Kate Beauchamp (alto saxophone) and Adam George (trombone) performed in the 8th/9th Grade Honors Band which was conducted by Mr. Jeffrey Bennett, retired Director of Bands from Harbor Springs, MI. 7th Graders Mikayla Burke (flute), Joey DeVolder (clarinet) and Chad Cousino (baritone) performed in the 7th Grade Honors Band which was conducted by Ms. Shelley Roland, Director of Bands at Clarkston Sashabaw Middle School. Out of the nearly 700 students nominated by their respective band directors, 237 students from 42 middle schools in Macomb, Oakland and St. Clair counties were invited to participate this year. Congratulations to these students for their hard work!
MSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival - Congratulations to the seventeen 7th and 8th Grade Band members that performed in the MSBOA District 16 Solo & Ensemble Festival on Sat. Jan 14 at Rochester HS. Our students prepared thirteen events (nine solos, three duets and a quartet) and each student received a medal, for a total of 18 "blue" First Division medals and one "red" Second Division medal. Congratulations and excellent work to everyone!

PRACTICE: Home practice is required of all SCMS Band students. Completed (with a parent signature)weekly Practice Charts are due by the second day of each week for all students in Bands 6 and Band 7.

SC Music Club Scholarships: Congratulations to the three SCMS Band members who are the recipients of scholarships from the SC Music Club Scholarship Auditions that were held on Sunday, March 6 at the East China PAC. Pianist Morgan Kronner (7) was awarded the Betty Winslow Piano Scholarship, flutist Kayla Wendt (8) was awarded the Dr. Richard Sargent Instrumental Scholarship and trumpeter Eli George (7) was awarded the Patron Scholarship. Eleven young musicians from SCMS, SCHS, MCHS, St. Mary's and one home-schooled student competed for the awards this year.
District Band Festival: The SCMS 8th Grade Band performed at Algonquin MS on Friday, March 4 in the MSBOA District Band Festival. They received three 1st Division ratings for their concert performance, and a 2nd Division rating for their sight-reading performance, which gave the Band an overall 1st Division rating!The SCMS 7th Grade Band performed at Algonquin MS on Saturday, March 5. They received straight 1st Division ratings for their concert performance and their sight-reading performance, for an overall 1st Division rating! Congratulations to ALL of these students for their outstanding performances!
Solo & Ensemble Festival: Congratulations to the twenty five 7th & 8th Grade SCMS Band members that performed in the MSBOA District XVI Solo & Ensemble Festival on Saturday, January 29 at Rochester HS. Our students prepared twenty two events (sixteen solos, four duets and two trios) and each student received a medal, for a total of eighteen "blue" First Division medals and twelve "red" Second Division medals.

STATE BAND FESTIVAL: The 7th Grade Band received a Second Division rating at the MSBOA State Band & Orchestra Festival on Friday, April 30 at Port Huron Northern HS. Congratulations on an impressive performance, and for your hard work all year. Thanks also to the parents who chaperoned, and the parents and family members that came out to support us that afternoon!
BAND FESTIVAL: Congratulations to the 7th Grade Band on their outstanding performance at the MSBOA District XVI Middle School Band Festival on Saturday, March 13. The Band received three First Division ratings from the concert judges, and another First Division in Sightreading for an overall First Division! Great job!! A huge "Thank You" to the parents that chaperoned and all the family members that came to hear us perform!
