HELPING TO PROVIDE OUR  STUDENTS 

WITH RICH OPPORTUNITIES

It is important to remember that you, as parents, are your child's first and most influential teacher.  You are a coach and a mentor.  You provide an important role model for your child.

Our building's Positive Behavior Support Program with its emphasis on the universal 3 B Rules-Be safe, Be respectful, Be responsible, encourages wise choices.  It outlines appropriate behavior and helps improve interpersonal relationships.  Be sure to talk about these rules at home as well.  You, too, can encourage your child to follow these universal rules both at home and at school.

Gearing provides many exciting opportunities for our students to learn positive social skills and practice leadership characteristics.

All students participate in our anti-bullying campaign.  Bullying is detrimental to a student's well-being and development.  With this in mind, all students are encouraged to stand up to bullies.  Our school wide focus on "NO BULLYING" teaches students to say Stop it, Stop it Now, Or I will tell someone.  We are proud to be a bully-free school.

The Gearing ambassador program for fifth grade students focuses on job skills education and leadership development.  Selected students are trained in job skills and work at job sites within the building during their lunch recess period.

In October each year, we observe Red Ribbon Week and pledge to be drug free.  Students are encouraged to say "NO" to drugs and "YES" to a healthy life style.

First and third grade students participate in the viewing of the video, "My Body Belongs to Me" as they learn about good touches and bad touches.

Spring brings an emphasis on career pathways with our annual Career Day for all students.  Professionals and business partners share their work experiences with our students encouraging each one to think about career choices.
