Belle River PTO

Belle River PTO Minutes

April 19th 2012

Welcome and Introductions were made.  Board members present were Nicole Hart, Kelly Vogler, Lisa Pettinger, and Donna Selleck.

Mrs. Andrea spoke about our Title 1 audit coming up on May 8th.  Since we are a Title 1 school we receive funding from the state, so the state has to come in and make sure the money is being spent effectively.  Mrs. Andrea is confident everything is in place for this audit and it is a great chance to “showcase” our school.

Mrs. Rymar, Mrs. Trout, and Mrs. Mauck gave classroom updates.  Mrs. Mauck announced her retirement at the end of the 2012 school year.

Donna Selleck gave the treasurer’s report.  The carnival was a huge success, bringing in $4,200.00.   The PTO would like to extend a huge thank you to all who volunteered time towards this exciting event.  The checking account currently has $6,900.00 and all outstanding bills are paid.  There are a few more classes to collect for end of the year field trips.

The position of PTO president was voted on at this meeting due to our current president, Nicole Hart’s 2-year term ending.   Kelly Vogler was elected as president of the PTO.  With Kelly accepting this new position, that leaves her current vice president position available.  PTO will be accepting nominations for the Vice President position up until our May 10th meeting.  At the May 10th meeting we will be voting on Vice President (1-year term) and Treasurer (2-year term).

The Fun Run forms are due Friday, April 20th.  We will still accept all that come in late.  If you are interested in helping with the fun run on Thursday, April 26th and Friday, April 27th please contact Lisa Pettinger.

Holly Weaver is working on the staff appreciation luncheon which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2nd.

The 5th grade party is well into its planning stages.  Donna Selleck is the coordinator and is extremely excited about the progress of the event.

PTO voted on a $20.00 expenditure overage for the field day ribbons.  Kelly Vogler is getting ribbons for the next three years at an excellent price, however the postage was not included.

Mrs. Charron’s class won the pizza party for participation for Spirit Day.

Mr. D’s class won for the most pizza points.

Any comments, questions, concerns please contact any board member.

2011-2012PTO SPONSORED SCHOOL REWARD PROGRAMS

BoxTops for Education is a fundraiser that our school benefits from greatly!  BoxTops can be found on

hundreds of household and food products that you use every day.  When you are finished with the

product, simply snip out the BoxTop and send them to school.  Our school holds monthly individual contests with the BoxTops, so please be sure to put your child’s name and teacher name on the back of them.  This year we will also be having two classroom contests in October and April.  Last school year we raised over $1,000 collecting BoxTops!  Let’s try to top that for this year!

Collecting Campbell’s Labels has been a “souper” fundraiser for our school for many, many years.  Everyone loves Campbells products and over the years this fundraiser has grown to include many other products such as: BIC, PopSecret, Prego, Spaghettios, V-8, Franco-American, Wolfgang Puck, Swanson, and Pepperidge Farm.  Please trim the label to include only the points rectangle and write your child’s name and teacher name on the back.  Last year, this program enabled our school to purchase DVD players and playground equipment!

VG’s Food & Pharmacy is wonderful about giving back to our community!  They donate 1% of the total amount of community points we collect back to our school.  Our school utilizes the money earned to use towards many of the programs PTO offers.  After doing your weekly shopping at any VG’s store, you will notice a community points total at the bottom of your receipt.  Be sure to clip that bottom portion of your receipt and send it in with your child’s name and teacher name on the back.  This year, PTO will be holding individual monthly contests for the students where they can win valuable prizes!  So save those receipts!

Target Corporation will donate 1% of your Target RedCard purchases to our school.  You can use the Target Credit Card, the Target Visa Credit Card or the Target Red Check Card.  Just make sure you have Belle River Elementary linked on any of those cards and our school will get the rewards automatically when you use it to shop at any Target store or at Target.com.  For more information on how to apply or sign up, visit the website:  http://www.target.com/tcoe , call 1-800-316-6142 or pick up an information page in the school’s office.

Our school earns money based on total amount of purchases made when enrolled members shop at Meijer.   Members can pay using cash, a PIN-based debit card or Meijer Credit Card along with swiping your Meijer 1 CardSM to earn rewards for qualified purchases.  The card is free and is NOT a credit card.  To learn more and apply online go to:     http://www.meijer.com/rewards or pick up an application in the school’s office.

Gordon Food Service (GFS) has developed a program called the GFS Fun Funds Program.  This program pays quarterly cash rebates to our school for purchases made by our enrolled members who make purchases at any GFS Marketplace store location.  The card is free and is NOT a credit card. Please visit the school’s office for an application for the rewards card—PTO can even turn it in for you.  On your initial application you get a $10 off coupon and monthly you will be sent extra coupons too.

Spartan’s Cash for Labels makes it simple to raise money for our school!  Our school’s PTO group collects the Universal Product Codes (UPC) from the labels of ANY Spartan brand products.  We will receive $.02   for every Spartan brand UPC symbol, or $20.00 per 1,000.  We only need the UPC part of the label. Codes

can be deposited in the bin marked with the Spartan Symbol that is located in the school’s front lobby.

Text Box: You you can raise money for your school every time you buy specially-marked Holsum, Sunbeam, Soft ‘N Good or Aunt Millie's bakery products. Just save proof-of-purchase symbols  (UPCs) with the School Spirit symbol on them and turn them in the bin with the School Spirit logo that is located in the school’s front lobby. For each proof-of-purchase received, Aunt Millie's will donate a nickel to Belle River Elementary.  The proof-of-purchase is the bar code and School Spirit emblem found on the bottom of the bread wrapper. Please turn in the symbol only and not the whole bread bag.

Text Box: Belle River PTO is accepting used or empty ink cartridges and toner cartridges for a recycle program.  We earn certificates each month based on the number of cartridges we collect that will go towards the purchase of school supplies.  This program helps to offset any budget cuts for basic classroom supply items.
